In January 2024, Il Vicolo Gallery invited me to an artist residency in Bali for 3 weeks. It was a wonderful experience that put me in contact with some local artisans, with uncontaminated nature and a very close-knit and united expat community. During my stay I produced paintings, concrete vases, two murals and a kimono. The residency ended with an exhibition called "Files contain no data".
"Files contain no data" is the title of the exhibition dedicated to the works created by Simone Brillarelli during the artistic residency.
A reflection on the overload of data "information overload" that man perceives in today's world and on how much this influences the thought and gesture of creation, where the word is no longer feeling or imagining but receiving and elaborating.
To describe the concept from which this series of works was born, the artist wrote: "The bombardment of images means that pure images no longer exist.
When the system is full, there is no more space to process the data but you have to opt for a forced cleaning to ensure that emotions guide the gesture.
No longer a folder to store and organize but an open space, free from external conditioning: Just pure emotions".
