This was my second solo show in Genoa at galleria Il Vicolo from April 10th to May the 4th 2024.
The Florentine artist, who recently completed the Joglo Bianco de Il Vicolo residency in Bali, presents Private Garden, an exhibition that is the direct consequence of the Balinese experience that allowed him to explore the theme of nature once again but in a more domestic sense, opening his “private garden” to the public and offering unique and intimate access to his inner world. In his garden, the artist encloses his strength and his deepest fears, a place of delights and bitterness, meditation and irrationality, a place of the self where flora and fauna coexist harmoniously. In his works, populated by plants, trees, flowers and animals, Brillarelli crystallizes the ephemeral beauty of nature while trying to exorcise feelings and represent forms with which to make peace. On display are works on canvas and ceramics in which painting, instinctive and emotional, oscillating between abstraction and figuration, invites the viewer to closely scrutinize the complexity and stratification of thought. Suffering, joy, meditation, eros, nature and humor become images represented with a cathartic and liberating act.
In some works, white spaces create that incompleteness that is instead the expression of a continuous evolution. The opposition between informal and formal, abstraction and figuration, becomes a dialogue waiting for answers, reflecting the mutability of the human soul.
Private Garden opens the doors to a world of wonder and contradiction, where art becomes a refuge and the garden, although imaginary, blooms again with the authentic essence of life; an invitation to reflect and rejoice, offering a break from the disconcerting daily life.
